Heading New Project of the Student Lab: Robots Attack and… Evolve
The student laboratory of the Faculty of Radiophysics of BSU was created in 2015. Since then, hundreds of students, as well as undergraduates and graduate students have participated in the laboratory projects. Such projects provided basis for more than 20 course papers, 3 scientific works, scientific articles and reports presented at various conferences.
The lab members start to work on a new project each season. In 2018, the laboratory was supported by the Science Around Us Foundation, which gave it an opportunity to study issues and problems in the field of group robotics during a longer time and more deeply.
The project students are currently involved in aims at creating a game in which one needs to resist the attack of 72 robots. The control is decentralized and utilizes infrared modules for detecting nearby devices and a mesh network for messaging.
The modularity of the devices allows for addition of sensor and executive units in the future. Thus, it is possible to continue research developing any other project idea. For example, the laboratory plans to create a set of firefly robots next season that will behave like a swarm and evolve in the process of teaching programming to children.
Dozens of laboratory participants from several universities could not only learn new things, but also use research data in their research papers.
