Belarusian Robots Among Top 10!

The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is the world’s major robotics competition held since 2004. It gathered 22 thousand teams from 55 countries this year, with 440 teams taking part in the finals in New Delhi.

15 teams represented Belarus in the finals. They had been selected during the National Stage of WRO held on October 22–23 in Minsk. Following its results, the pupils of the Robotics School, the Engineerium club, the National Center for Innovation and Technical Creativity, and the Belarusian State University gained a right to participate in the Olympics. In total, 110 teams took part in the national competition.

This year the Olympiad was dedicated to ecology; it’s theme, “RAP THE SCRAP: Reduce, Manage, and Recycle Waste”, highlighted the problem of cleaning the territory, sorting and recycling waste.

Traditionally, the competition is held in four categories: Regular, Open, WRO Football, and Advanced Robotics Challenge, for three age groups each. The teams consist of three people, the results are calculated with regards to the age group category and the types of robot use.

The Regular Category of WRO draws much attention. The teams faced the following challenge this year: they had to build and program a robot that would deliver bags with sorted waste to the garbage processing plant and then return to the maintenance area. This was the task the Belarusian team coped with most successfully. The RB_Volat Team consisting of Alexey Bykov and Nikolay Yakubov and representing the country in the senior regular category, took the 6th place. Young engineers had to compete with 93 teams.

It was the third time Belarus participated in the Forum. Last year our country won the 4th place in the team competition in Qatar.

We congratulate the participants and all those who contributed to their success at the Olympiad!
