Gilded Youth: Belarusian Pupils Showed Brilliant Results at International Conference of Young Scientists!
The 24th International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) took place in a German city of Stuttgart from 16 to 22 April 2017. It welcomed teams of pupils from 26 countries of the world, namely Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, India, Indonesia, Iran, Macedonia, Malaysia, Holland, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Sri Lanka.
The participants presented 15–minute long reports in five disciplines, such as Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology, and Environmental Studies. The presentations were subject to evaluation by an international judging panel consisting of eminent scientists and practitioners from universities of Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The following pupils represented Belarus at the Conference:
- Nikolai Sheshko and Andrei Shvedov – Minsk Gymnasium No. 41, report in Mathematics “Solution of a Problem Involving Embedding of Heron’s Sets in Z^2”;
- Konstantin Shinkarev – Gomel Secondary School No. 30, report in Mathematics “Eccentricity of a Vertex of a Connected Graph”;
- Vladislav Gadalov – Slutsk Secondary School No. 11, report in Computer Science “ , a New-generation Smartphone”;
- Ksenia Pateeva – Grodno Gymnasium No. 3, report in Physics “Investigation of the Phenomenon of Self-assembly of Ordered Micro- and Nanostructures in an Evaporating Liquid Droplet”.
The Contest lasted two days and was held in English. Following the results of ICYS 2017, Belarusian pupils won four medals out of four possible:
- Nikolai Sheshko, Andrei Shvedov (Mathematics) – GOLD medal
- Vladislav Gadalov (Computer Science)– BRONZE medal
- Konstantin Shinkarev (Mathematics) – BRONZE medal
- Ksenia Pateeva (Physics, poster section) – BRONZE medal
We wholeheartedly congratulate the winners on their brilliant performance at the Conference! We wish them further scientific and creative success! We also thank their leaders, trainers, who helped young scientists prepare for the contest: Vitaly Zhilko, Boris Zadvorny, and Leonid Markovich.
