46th International School Olympiad in Physics

Thanks to the sponsorship of Science Around Us Foundation, a team of Belarusian students took part in the 46th International School Olympiad in Physics.

Teams from 86 countries from different continents competed in the School Physics Olympiad, which was held on July 5-12, 2015 in Mumbai (Republic of India). This prestigious intellectual competition in the ability to solve complex problems in Physics brought together 382 participants from almost all corners of the globe.

Belarus was represented by five students who showed the best results in the past year (from left to right in the photo):

  • Artem Pyvovarchyk (Minsk, the Lyceum of Belarusian State University)
  • Evgeny Shurygin (Minsk, the Lyceum of Belarusian State University)
  • Anton Tolkachev (Gomel, Gymnasium No 14)
  • Bogdan Zwierzynski (Minsk, the Lyceum of Belarusian State University)
  • Vladislav Klimashonok (Borisov, Gymnasium No 1)

Team leaders were Head of the Department of General Physics of the Physics Department of Baku State University, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Anatoly Slobodyanyuk (left) and Head of Department of Physics, BSU Lyceum Leonid Markovich (right).

The “Young Newtons” have demonstrated excellent results, and all five of them won medals:

  • Anton Tolkachev                Gold medal
  • Bogdan Zwierzynski           Silver medal
  • Evgeny Shurygin                Bronze medal
  • Artem Pyvovarchyk            Bronze medal
  • Vladislav Klimashonok           Bronze medal

In the team competition among the countries of the former USSR, our boys lost only to the Russian national team, winning against such experienced rivals as the teams of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia and the Baltic states.
